edIn 2020, the Census will be conducted entirely online for the first time in US history. Thanks to the digital divide, many communities that were already hard to count are even more at risk of being undercounted. Communities and organizations have been working to support enumeration efforts by providing safe internet access points, answering questions from the community, and tracking incidents that arise. This manual is for anyone working with communities towards a complete count during Census 2020.
I developed the graphic design of this train-the-trainer for the New School’s Digital Equity Laboratory. The manual is for libraries, community-based organizations, and community advocates to better prepare themselves against the uncertainties of the digital census and create safe digital and non-digital pathways to participation in the 2020 Census. Nearly 1,000 copies of the curriculum were distributed across the New York Regional Library System to guide the Library Complete Count Committee’s trainings across the state.
Manual created and edited by Greta Byrum and Holly Dowell of the Digital Equity Laboratory. Curriculum content designed and piloted by Luce Lincoln, Kyle Massey, Slammer Musata, Hana Sun, and Norman Shamas.
